Southerness (near Dumfries), Dec. 11, SUMMER CLOUD barquentine, of Kirkcaldy, Taylor, from Campbelton (N.B.) for Glencaple Quay, Dumfries (timber and deals), encountered strong gales, lat. 47 26 N, long. 47 24 W, and was struck by a heavy sea, filling the deck and starting deckload, which was subsequently thrown overboard. On Nov. 22, at midnight, during a terrific gale, the vessel broached to, lost foretopmaststaysail, foresail, &c. On the 24th a sea broke on board, burst in the after door and flooded the cabin: on the 28th another tremendous sea broke on board, washed everything on deck adrift, and did sundry damage. On the 9th inst., when in charge of a pilot coming up the Firth making for an anchorage off Southerness Point, struck on Barnhourie Bank about 1 and a half miles below Southerness Lighthouse, and remains. If the weather moderates she may be got off as the tide rises. She is leaking very slightly, has sternpost started and one rudder band broken.

Dalbeattie, Dec. 13, SUMMER CLOUD, 3-masted schooner, of Kirkcaldy, Taylor, from Campbelton (Restigouche), for Glencaple (Dumfries), with square timber and deals, stranded near Saturness on Thursday night. Lloyd's Agent has been to her, and found her just shifting about, as the anchors dragged through the sand. The vessel is about 14 miles from here, and there is no communication but by horse and conveyance. The master has refused assistance. The vessel's middle rudderband is gone, but with the assistance of a tug at once, vessel might be got off with her cargo.
