Archaeology Notes

NJ72SW 112 7426 2090

Woodhill was probably a croft or small farmsteading established in the middle of the 19th century; it is not depicted on Walker and Beattie's estate plan of 1838 but is first indicated on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Aberdeenshire, sheet liv, 1869). At that time it comprised an L-shaped range accompanied by a cottage, but the 2nd edition of the map (sheet liv.NE, 1901) indicates that by the end of the 19th century only the cottage remained roofed, this now stands as a roofless shell in a small country park.

Visited by RCAHMS (JRS), 4 December 1997.
