Archaeology Notes

At NH 4964 4188, within a walled enclosure, formerly a copse, at the W margin of a field, is a cairn, 12.0 m in diameter and 1.6 m high. It bears the stumps of trees, and is riddled with rabbit burrows in which is exposed a content of earth and stones.

Surveyed at 1:2500.

Beaufort Cottages NH 496 418 NH 44 SE

What may be a prehistoric burial-mound, measuring a maximum of 13m in diameter and 1.8m in height, occupies a slight knoll 200m S of Beaufort Cottages. Part of a kerb is visible about 2.5m inside the NE edge of the mound.
