Archaeology Notes

NH44SE 13 45 41.

A circular enclosure lies about 1/2 mile north of 'Loch-an-a-Caileach', above Aigas Ferry., (? Loch Cuil na Caillich: NH 454 414). Its inner diameter is 48', with a wall 6' in thickness and its entrance towards the east.

Field Visit (2 November 1943)

This site was recorded as part of the RCAHMS Emergency Survey, undertaken by Angus Graham and Vere Gordon Childe during World War 2. The project archive has been catalogued during 2013-2014 and the material, which includes notebooks, manuscripts, typescripts, plans and photographs, is now available online.

Aigas 2 NH c.454 422 NH 44 SE 13

What may have been a circular house measuring 14.6m within a wall about 1.8m thick was reported by Wallace 'about half a mile' (800m) N of Loch Cuil na Caillich. The area is now afforested.
