Archaeology Notes

NS83SW 24 8360 3085

NS 836 308 A watching brief was carried out by Scotia Archaeology Ltd during excavations for the foundations of a garage in the garden at the rear of what had been a gospel hall. Immediately below topsoil were the remains of a masonry building and its cobbled floor, probably of 19th-century date. Some of the cobbles had been replaced, presumably during repair works. The cobbles are built up to the walls, proving the floor and walls are contemporaneous. It was decided to build the garage directly over these features rather than remove them.
