Activities

Field Visit (19 December 1996)

NO20NW 99 2374 0679

A line of earthfast stones forming the slight arc of a low, stony bank, situated on the N-facing slope overlooking the Mill Burn, was recorded by Headland Archaeology (NMRS MS 899/42, no.17) during a pre-afforestation survey. It measures 14m in length and is 1m wide and 0.2m high. The platform is clearly earlier than the rig (NO20NW 96) and may represent the last vestiges of an enclosure or field wall.

C Lowe and M Dalland (Headland Archaeology) 19 December 1996; NMRS MS 899/42, no.16.

Site recorded during a short-notice pre-afforestation survey undertaken by Headland Archaeology Ltd of three small areas of ground (c 33ha).

NO 2374 0679 Enclosure/stone dyke.

A full report is lodged with the NMRS.
