Activities

Field Visit (20 March 1973)

NH33SE 11 3834 3219.

At NH 3834 3219, on a plateau separated from NH 33 SE 12 by a wet gully, is an oval stone-walled hut measuring about 13.0m NW - SE by about 9.5m between the centres of a wall spread to about 3.5m all round. The entrance, in the SE, is ill-defined.

On the plateau and on the slopes to the W of the hut are a number of stone clearance heaps, probably from contemporary cultivation plots.

Surveyed at 1/10 000.

Field Visit (6 August 1997)

This hut-circle is situated on the SW end of a ridge in thick woodland. It measures 8.8m from NE to SW by 7.7m transversely within a stony bank spread to 3.5m in thickness and 0.75m in height, and there is an entrance on the SE. The small cairns reported by the OS (1973) (these may be the area of field clearance described by J Wordsworth 1999) were not found in the dense woodland cover.
