NX44SW 56.03 4449 4028

(3) Lower part of a cross-shaft. Found in the churchyard at Whithorn.

The front and back of the shaft are each filled with a single panel of well designed, regular interlace.

This fragment, still in the pure Anglian tradition, is a late example dating from the end of the 8th, or more probably the 9th century.
