The Earldom of Ross in the 13th century included the messuage of the Castle of Balloan.

R Bain 1899.

Inverbroom House was known as Balloan House until about 1835. It has twice been burnt to the ground. Prior to 1655 it was said to be the Court House of the District.

A C M Mitford 1936.

The tradition of the earlier house is known locally, but no trace of the structure seems to have survived.

Visited by OS (A A) 9 October 1974.
