'Carn Chaorain', a large heap of stone on the road leading from Strathconon to Glencarron, is 'the supposed place of burial of a Scandinavian chief of that name'. The name means 'Cuaran's Cairn.'
Name Book 1875
Carn Chaorain, a heap of stone c.8.0m in diameter and 2.0m high, situated in a hollow on the north side of the old road. The tradition that it is the burial place of a Scandinavian king is not known locally and is probably erroneous, although the name is verified (Mr Campbell, Carnoch, Strathconan, Ross and Cromarty). According to Mr. Campbell, it marks the spot where a "Skyeman was killed during the cattle droving".
