Archaeology Notes

ND39NW 162 Centred ND 3035 9687

A barrage balloon site is situated some 300m W of Muckle Rysa farm on the SW side of the B9047 public road. All that remains of the site is the concrete base of one hut, and what may be the central bolt ring for the barrage balloon fixing rings.

Visited by RCAHMS (DE) August 1997

The barrage balloon mooring site is visible on a RAF vertical air photograph (LEU/UK 4, 7030, flown 17 April 1948), as a circular cleared area on the S side of the B9047 road. Three circles of morring blocks are visible on the photographs with the hut base to the E.
