Archaeology Notes

NJ60SW 27 6067 0333 to 6072 0329

(Location cited as NJ 607 033). Railway viaduct, Lumphanan. Built 1857-9 for the Aboyne Extension Rly, engineer John Willet. A 5-span viaduct with brick arch rings and rubble spandrels and piers. Now disused.

This viaduct formerly carried the Ballater branch ('Royal Deeside line') of the Great North of Scotland Rly. over the Beltie Burn, which here forms the boundary between the parishes of Lumphanan and Kincardine O'Neil.
