NG53SE 10 centred 578 342

A township comprising twelve unroofed buildings, one of which is a long building, a field-system (NG 576 345) and a head-dyke is depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Inverness-shire, Isle of Skye 1879, sheet xxxvi). Four roofed, sixteen unroofed buildings, some field walls, a head-dyke and the field-system are shown on the current edition of the OS 1:10000 map (1988).

Sites recorded during a survey carried out by Glasgow University Certificate in Field Archaeology students in April 1998, covering an area of 30ha at Eyre Point, the SE extremity of the island of Raasay.

Activities

Field Visit (April 2008)

The survey of the following sites was carried out in April 2008 as part of a continuing programme to record the

physical remains of human activity on the Island of Raasay.

NG 5784 3445 (centred on) – Township of Eyre The site is situated above Eyre Point and consists of eight structures including houses, byres, stores and an enclosure. The site is part of the township surveyed in 1998. See ACFA Occasional paper No.43 Appendix 2.
