NLO: Bodha Trodday [name: NG 444 790]

Eilean Trodday [name: NG 440 790].

Formerly entered at cited location NG 4428 7988 [N57 43.8 W6 17.8].

NORDHUK, ex SLOMAN BARCELONA, ex METEOR. Built by Jos. L Meyer of Papenburg. The wreck lies in 28 metres and rises 10 metres from the bottom. It is at right angles to the beach, about 100 to 150 metres off. She is an isolated obstruction on an otherwise flat bottom. The name METEOR is visible on the bows in raised steel letters. She lists to starboard and is extensively damaged on that side. It is thought she may move during storms. The area forward of the bridge is smashed and scattered. The stern [has broken away and] is slipping towards deeper water. There are strong tidal streams at the site. The source illustrates transits for locating her.

G Ridley 1990.

(Classified as M[otor] V[essel], with cargo of grain and sea grass: former names cited as Sloman Barcelona, and Meteor, and date of loss as 2 May 1976). Nordhuk: this vessel stranded [at the] N end of Trodday.

Registration: West German. 1359grt. Length: 74m. Beam: 12m.

(Location of loss cited as N57 43.80 W6 17.83).

I G Whittaker 1998.

(Re-entered at location NG c. 442 792: N57 43.8 W6 17.8) is essentially tentative, but is supported by the information given by Ridley and his supporting illustration.. That previously entered (NG 4428 7988: N57 43.8 W6 17.8) appears improbable, being at a considerable distance from the shore.

Circumstances of Loss : **EX-METEOR, EX-SLOMAN BARCELONA. BUILT IN 1966 BY JOS L MEYER, PAPENBURG. OWNED AT TIME OF LOSS BY PARTENREEDEREI MS NORDHUK. 8 CYLINDER OIL ENGINE OF 1600 BHP, SINGLE SHAFT. PASSAGE GOTHENBORG FOR LIVERPOOL. WENT AGROUND ON EILEAN TODDAY, N OF SKYE. TOOK WATER AND WAS ABANDONED WHEN AWASH. CREW RECOVERED. 2 LIFEBOATS RECOVERED BY SALVAGE VESSEL DROXFORD. (LL & SIBI).

Surveying Details : **10.5.76 VESSEL BADLY HOLED. MIGHT BE A TOTAL LOSS. (LL 7.5.76).

**7.6.76 TWO GLASS-FIBRE LIFEBOATS SALVED FROM NORDHUK. (LL 5.6.76).

**H2894/72 12.7.76 COASTER OF APPROX 900 GRT, (?NORDHUK), REPORTED STRANDED AT N END OF EILEAN TRODDAY IN APPROX 574342N,061800W. (MV BAXTERGATE, HN DTD 30.5.76). NCA YET.

**19.7.76 CONSIDERED TOTAL LOSS. TO BE SOLD AS IS WHERE IS. (LL 24.6.76).

**H3156/69 30.7.76 SHOWN TO BE AT N END OF EILEAN TRODDAY IN 574348N, 061750W [OGB]. LYING WSW/ENE, BOWS CLOSE TO SHORE AND SHOWING TOP FOREMAST AND GANTRY WITH RADAR MAST. ALSO SHOWING STERN AND BRIDGE STRUCTURE UNDER WATER. (RAF BRIZE NORTON SAC, AIR PHOTO). INS AS ST. BR STD.

**H1289/76/338 14.10.76 WK APPEARS TO HAVE RUN AGROUND ON A SOUTH-WESTERLY HEADING STRIKING JUST SHORT OF CLIFFS OFF HER PORT BOW AND A PROMINENT STACK OFF HER STARBOARD BOW. THE WK IS SUBMERGED ABAFT THE FOREMAST. AT THE TIME OF THE SURVEY THE IMPRESSION WAS OF A WELL BUILT AND MAINTAINED SHIP SHOWING NO SIGN OF STRUCTURAL DAMAGE OTHER THAN BEING SEVERELY HOLED. THE WK WAS BOARDED AT SLACK WATER AND EVEN WITH A SLIGHT SEA THE HULL SEEMED TO BE MOVING SLIGHTLY. THIS COUPLED WITH A SOUNDING OF 102FT TO 150FT AFT OF THE RADAR GANTRY WOULD SUGGEST THAT THE WK MAY SLIP BACK INTO DEEPER WATER UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF ATLANTIC STORMS AND TIDAL SCOUR AROUND THE END OF THE ISLAND. WK NOT A HAZARD TO NAVIGATION. UNDERWATER SURVEY NOT CARRIED OUT DUE TO BAD WEATHER. (R.A.F BRIZE NORTON SAC, 1976 HEBRIDES SURVEY).

**15.7.77 WK NOT MENTIONED. (HMS HECLA, HI 7/76).

ON 25.8.80 AT 1600, THE HIGHEST POINT OF WK HAD DEPTH OF ABOUT 18MTRS IN GEN DEPTH OF 27MTRS. THE ORIGINAL NAME METEOR IS ON HULL IN RAISED LETTERS. (J O HALL, 3.10.80). NCA.

**H1310/81/18 30.7.81 STERN SECTION ONLY REMAINS - POOP DECK AND LOADING GANTRY AS REPD.

**15.10.80. ALL FORWARD FLATTENED, EXCEPT BOW WHICH IS CLOSE INSHORE AND UPSIDE DOWN. (A J JENNIONS, 14.7.81).

**H1933/80 14.10.81 NO TRACE OF THIS WK SEEN FROM SHIP WHILE SOUNDING CLOSE OFF EILEAN TRODDAY. (HMS HYDRA, HI 2/81). NCA.
