Archaeology Notes

NO59SW 11 545 936

The depopulated settlement that is noted by Aberdeenshire Archaeological Service at NO 541 936 is probably to be identified with the open rectangles depicted on the 1975 edition of the OS 1:10,000 map at NO 5449 9360, 5455 9364, 5462 9366, 5462 9371 and 5458 9375.

A farmstead comprising two roofed buildings, one of which is a long building, and one incomplete enclosure, a sheepfold, an Old Limekiln and two unroofed buildings lying approximately 100m to the NE are depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Aberdeenshire 1869, sheet xciii). Four unroofed buildings and two enclosures are shown on the current edition of the OS 1:10000 map (1975).
