Archaeology Notes

NJ72SW 62 741 208

Air photography (AAS/96/15/G39/8-10, flown 27 August 1996) has recorded the cropmark of a possible oval enclosure on the summit of a hill in an area of rank grass and heather; it may, however, be no more than a vegetation-mark. [The cited location at NJ 741 268 is evidently erroneous].

Information from Aberdeenshire Archaeological Service, October 1996.

NMRS, MS/712/12.

Location cited as NJ 741 209.

NMRS, MS/712/17.

Oblique aerial photography (AAS/96/15/G39/8-10), flown on 27 August 1996, has recorded a vegetation mark that looks like a small circular enclosure overlying broad rig (NJ72SW 61). However, no trace of the vegetation mark was seen on the date of visit.

Visited by RCAHMS (JRS), 6 May 1996.

This alleged enclosure, which was recorded by aerial photography in 1996, appears to be no more than a surface effect in the vegetation growing in an area of broad rig cultivation (NJ72SW 61).

Visited by RCAHMS (JRS), 4 December 1997.
