Archaeology Notes

NJ72SW 61 centred 740 209

Air photography (AAS/96/15/G39/7-9, flown 27 August 1996) has recorded an area of rig-and-furrow cultivation on moderate N-, S- and W-facing slopes in an area of heather and scrub.

Information from Aberdeenshire Archaeological Service, October 1996.

NMRS, MS/712/12.

An extensive area of rig-and-furrow cultivation is situated on the E end of a low ridge immediately W of the remains of the former farmsteading of Woodhill (NJ72SW 112). The rigs are aligned mainly N and S, and measure up to 9m in breadth. The area now lies within the bounds of a conservation park and much of the rig was difficult to discern in long grass on the date of visit.

Visited by RCAHMS (JRS), 6 May 1996.
