Two shipwrecks within 48 hours. The 99 ton Clyde puffer GLEN ROSA.

The grim toll taken by the cliff-girt coast of south Mull last week, the vessels involved being the 750 ton boom defence ship BARCOME [NM62SW 8001] and the 99 ton Clyde puffer GLEN ROSA. Both hit the rocks in dense fog and lie within 3 miles of each other near the entrance to Loch Buie. The GLEN ROSA was owned by G & G Hamilton, Bothwell Street, Glasgow. The four crew were rescued by the Barrington, another boom defence vessel which had been standing by the wreck of the BARCOME.

The GLEN ROSA had been en route from Troon to Bunessan with 120 tons of coal. They had been experiencing some trouble with the compass which had been affected by a local magnetic attraction in the vicinity of Loch Buie when she ran aground under the cliffs and was a total loss.
