For other marble quarries nearby, see NG61NNW 7.00 and NG62SW 55.01.

The marble quarries near Broadford provided the stone for the great staircase at Aramadale Castle, and large quantities of it went to Hamilton Castle, and to the Board of Ordnance for mill-stones. The quarry was eventually abandoned on account of the included grit that rendered impossible the cutting of slabs of the requisite dimensions. J Anderson 1765; A Nicolson 1930.
