Sconser Lodge, John Mackenzie, 1881-5. Municipal-looking villa with battlemented lookout tower, formerly a Macdonald shooting lodge.

[No trace survives of the 'solitary inn'/post office at Sconser (rebuilt by J. Gillespie Graham, 1804-5), site of the meeting between the Macleod and Macdonald chiefs in 1745 to consider whether or not they would support BPC. In the event neither did; Sir Alexander Macdonald said he would, but changed his mind the next day (his wife retained Jacobite sympathies).]
