Archaeology Notes

HP60SW 14 c. 61 02.

A broch is said to have existed close to the bay of Sandiveck, but no trace of it now remains unless it is represented by some of the masonry 'included in No. 1573' (HP60SW 9 and HP60SW 25 - Viking sites).

Irvine in 1863 included it in his list of Unst broches and added that it lay two thirds towards the east side of the Sand of Sandiveck, first observed by the schoolmaster of Uyeasound, from the sound which had entirely covered it being partly removed by the north-easterly gales. Only a small part of that site is to be seen (J T Irvine).

RCAHMS 1946, visited 1930

No trace of a broch.

Visited by OS (RL) 4 May 1969.
