NT 620 825 - NT 618 823 WW2 defences
Sponsor: Historic Scotland
GUARD 1996
A complex of WW2 defences at Pefferside was seen. These consist of a single row of concrete cubes (1.5m high x 1.2m) running east west on the south side of the burn, parallel to this on the north side and at 0.6m distance, a single row of concrete 'dragons teeth' (flattened pyramid shapes) were seen. This line of defences is broken by a farm track but resumes on the other side and joins with a double row of anti-tank cubes running north-south approximately 200-300m inland. This double row continues on the north side of the burn, but most of the cubes have been smashed or moved around the grounds of the school camp. Shown on 1946 AP's and still extant on 1973 AP's B108 5271-3 15/4/46; B739 009-010 30/7/73.
Site recorded by GUARD during the Coastal Assessment Survey for Historic Scotland, 'The Firth of Forth from Dunbar to the Coast of Fife' 17th February 1996.
