The location assigned to this record is essentially arbitrary. Irvine Bar is not noted on the 1998 edition of the OS 1:50,000 map, but the River Garnock enters Irvine Bay at NS 303 380 and the bar may be envisaged as a Southeastwards extension of Ardeer Spit or Sands. The extensive area of Irvine Harbour (NS33NW 40.00) is centred at NS 30668 38222.
It remains unclear whether this vessel stranded on the W (Firth of Clyde) or E (Irvine Harbour) side of the Ardeer spit.
Information from RCAHMS (RJCM), 15 November 2005.
