Duddingston House, c.1810, Robert Burn

In the most mock of picturesque Gothic, its narrow verticality implies a recasting of the earlier seat of the Dundases (1655 dormer-head embedded in the south wall), confirmed by the fact that the first floor is taller than the ground; customary during the Renaissance. This crenellated shoebox is likely, therefore, to represent a fashionable retrofit. Symmetrical steading, 1822, with comparable military insignia. Ice house, 1825.
