St Matthew's Episcopal, 1863, Ross and Joass. Pleasing granite Gothic (early Decorated) with striking chequered voussoirs to west window. Simple nave and chancel with angle buttresses and an almost detached spire rising from

square to hexagonal cross-section from beside porch. Tendril-like freestone tracery carved with real freedom. Inside collar-braced roofs, glass by Hardman and an intricate Arts & Crafts monument to Beauchap Colclough Urquhart of Meldrum, d.1898. A fine ensemble.

Taken from "Aberdeenshire: Donside and Strathbogie - An Illustrated Architectural Guide", by Ian Shepherd, 2006. Published by the Rutland Press http://www.rias.org.uk
