Greenock, 22d Oct [1825]. 'The COMET steam boat, MacInnes, from Inverness to Glasgow, with about 60 passengers, came in contact with the AYR lugger steam boat, MacClelland, from hence to Ayr, yesterday morning, off Kempuck [Kempock] Point, near Gourock, when the COMET almost immediately filled and sunk: the master, 3 of the crew, and 7 passengers saved: 11 bodies, and about 90 packages of luggage have been washed on shore. The AYR put back to this port in a leaky state, and sailed again last night after repairing.' [Record received incomplete].

NMRS, MS/829/71 (no. 6431).

The location assigned to this record is essentially tentative.

The loss of this vessel is not cited by I G Whittaker (1998), presumably on account of her successful recovery.
