NN 157 568 Large drystone enclosure.

Field Visit (1996)

A large sub-circular area of grazing is enclosed by a substantial drystone dyke on the hillside to the W of un-named settlement 49. The dyke is c0.7m wide and between c0.2m and c1.5m high, with a probable entrance c0.9m wide on its W side.

Within the enclosure are a couple of possible structures/features. At the S end of the enclosure is a slight drystone dyke [c0.5m wide and c0.2m high] set against the main dyke of the enclosure and enclosing an area c10m long and c1m wide internally, thereby creating a 'pen'(?). On the rise within the enclosure is an earthen bank [c1m wide and c0.3m high] apparently defining an oval area c28m by c15m aligned SW-NE.
