NN 183 511 Large enclosure with rig cultivation.

J Harden and J Wordsworth 1996

Field Visit (1996)

A sub-rectangular enclosure is defined by the remains of a turf and boulder dyke [c0.8m wide and up to c0.3m high] on three sides and the river on the fourth. It is bisected by the road which, judging from the alignment of the rig cultivation which lies within the enclosure, may always have done so.

The area enclosed is crossed by rig cultivation - that south of the road being aligned cW-E and that north of the road cSW-NE - the rigs being c2m wide and c0.1-0.2m high.
