Srp Note (24 January 2011)
Carnoch Farmhouse and its adjacent fields are situated on the S side of the modern road at the E end of Loch Beannacharain. The farmhouse complex is unoccupied but still retains its slated roof and is in reasonable repair. The extant farmhouse was built in 1893 and occupies the site of an earlier one depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Ross-shire 1881, sheet xcvi) which also shows a number of surviving outbuildings.
A number of features associated with or in proximity to the farmhouse have been recorded including
Four circular cobbled stack bases (NOSAS site survey number 821), an un-inscribed milestone (822) an earth bank enclosure (823), a linear earth bank (822) and two linear stone settings (157 & 887) of unknown purpose.
Further details of these and other associated sites can be found in the Strathconon Phase 4 Report (pages35 & 36) produced by the North of Scotland Archaeology Society and appended to this record.
