(Location cited as HY 448 110). Gas works, 19th and early 20th century. A group of corrugated-iron and rubble buildings, dominated by a corrugated-iron-clad vertical-retort house. There is a small 6-column holder, and a range of purifiers, water-cooled condensor and scrubber also survive. Out of production, and used as a depot.

Field Visit (29 July 2010)
This site is now occupied by 1980s style housing and is now known as 'Castleyards'.
Based on map evidence, the gasworks increased in size from approximately 895 square metres to over 1,000 square metres in the period 1882-1903 (1st and 2nd edotion Ordnance Survey maps, Orkney, 1882 and 1903, sheet CVIII.3).
