Field Visit (May 1996 - June 1996)
In a small clearing amongst open birch woodland, at the foot of the east flank of Cam na Snaobhaig are the degraded ruins of a small farmstead consisting of the following:-
A small bothy measuring 5.0m south-west to north-east by 3.5m north-west to south-east over tumbled stone walls 0.8m thick. A 1.0m wide door opening lies in the centre of the south-east wall. Attached to the north-west side of the bothy is a small, very ruinous enclosure of triangular shape. The bothy lies in the south-west corner of a subrectangular
boulder enclosure which measures roughly 30.0m square. Within the
enclosure are numerous small clearance cairns. To the north of the enclosure, immediately at the foot of the slope, and just below the tree line are the remains of at least 5 single cell structures measuring 2.0m in diameter over walls 0.5m thick. At least one of these cells is square in plan.
A very degraded site which will be impossible to fmd once the bracken grows.

Field Visit (1996)
NG 780 300 (centre) In the springs of 1995 and 1996 a field survey was carried out on the NTS Balmacara Estate. The estate covers approximately 22.5 sqkm of the Lochalsh peninsula. It lies largely within the points of a triangle formed by Kyle in the SW, Plockton in the N and Balmacara in the SE. The range of topographic variation found within the estate largely reflects that found on the W coast of Scotland generally. The range of sites found during the survey reflects this topographic variation.
During two seasons of survey 109 new sites were recorded. A full report is lodged with the NMRS.

It consists of a ruinous building and an attached small yard within an enclosure that has numerous clearance cairns across it. Just north of the enclosure are at least 5 small structures, possibly lambing pens.
NTS ref: BAL 060 (Information from condition report for NTS produced by Jill Harden 2000)
NTS commissioned condition survey undertaken by Jill Harden as follow-up to Dualchas survey
