Archaeology Notes

NJ52NE 49 56654 29976

For Wardhouse (NJ 5634 3071) and lodge (NJ 5665 2974), see NJ53SE 15.00 and NJ52NE 48 respectively.

This bridge was built in 1852-4 by Alex. Gibb to carry the drive to Wardhouse over the (Inverness-Aberdeen) main line of the Great North of Scotland Rly. It comprises a single semi-elliptical arch of droved ashlar construction with raised channel-jointed voussoirs; the buttresses are battered with pulvinated rustication and the parapet is solid.

NMRS, MS/712/11.
