Archaeology Notes

NG20SE 23 2827 0418

(NG 282 041). Situated some 40m SE of NG20SE 3 (q.v.) is another similar but smaller rectangular setting of massive blocks, apparently at the end of a ruined dyke, which may have been robbed to provide stones. There are no signs of lazy beds or rigs in the area.

L Alcock 1983.

(Formerly classified as shieling-hut; reclassified as structure at NG 2827 0418). The structure recorded by Alcock is included amongst the remains described in NG20SE 5. U-shaped on plan, it is defined by boulders set on edge and is connected to the W end of an old stone wall. It measures 5.4m from E to W by 2.2m transversely overall, and appears to taper slightly towards its E end.

(Canna 387).

Visited by RCAHMS (ARG), 6 June 1994.
