(NG 2801 0544). Slight traces of ancient (prob Dark Ages) settlement at Alman. Test holes, 1953.
Private 6" map of T C Lethbridge, 1953.
A stack accessible by a natural gulley on the N side. Along the top of the cliff on the N side, are traces of a turf-covered wall and a possible structure none of which seems substantial enough for a fort. The interior of the stack has had lazybed cultivation and it is probable that the stack has been the site of minor settlement.
Sherds of coarse handmade pottery have been found in debris at the foot of the N face. Date uncertain (Information from Mr J L Campbell, Canna House).
Visited by OS (I SS), 26 May 1972.
Two small plots of lazy-bed cultivation are visible on the grass-grown summit of this stack which is accessible only at low tide by a natural fissure on its N side. The walling referred to by the OS in 1972 appears to be the natural cliff edge, and no trace of any possible structure was recorded on the date of visit.
