Kilchoan Described in the late 16th century as the principal 'dwelling toun of the Superior of that Countrie', Kilchoan bears no evidence today of a stronghold, although there is a curious mound at OS 776991. An Early Christian site, it has two burial grounds, the earlier marking the site of a late medieval chapel (only the font survives). Here are two Early Christian stones and some late medieval grave slabs, one, probably carved locally in the 16th century, depicting a hunting scene, galley and archer beneath a triangular head. Re-erected in the later (Protestant) circular enclosure is a fine Celtic cross, probably 15th century, with a uniquely shaped head and carved sword.
