Boatbuilding Yards [NAT]

Slipways [NAT]

OS 1:10,000 map, 1977.

Large boathouse and yard with slipways. These could possibly have been used during WW II by RAF rescue launches covering both Kinloss and Lossiemouth airfields.

J Guy 1992; NMRS MS 810/1, 111

The use of the slipway by the RAF is highly unlikely as the area dries up at low tide. The RAF rescue launches were based at Alness and occasionally they used Lossiemouth where necessary.

During 1941 the slipway was used for training in pontoon bridging by the Royal Engineers.

Information in letter to RCAHMS from W A Bartlam, dated December 2003
