Former Governor's House c.1772 One of the town's older buildings, which established the trend for frontages of pink and grey pinned rubble. Prior to its construction, only timber buildings were permitted outside the fort, so that they could be torched on the governor's orders if trouble arose. 19th century additions. Now offices of Scottish Natural Heritage.
