Highland Hotel, Union Road, Duncan Cameron, 1895. Former Station Hotel looming over the town like a Hydro, its principal gables (originally with decorative bargeboards) linked by a splendidly ornate cast-iron balcony/veranda. Inside, much of the original ground floor decoration survives: panelling and other fittings such as reception booth, half-glazed doors decorated with frosted lettering, and windows with geometrical leaded upper lights.
