Archaeology Notes

NT07SE 33.08 NT 0899 7313

Situated some 30m SW of Bridge No.29 (NT07SE 33.03) are the landscaped abutments of the former railway bridge which carried the mineral railway from the main Edinburgh - Glasgow railway line at West Farm (NT 0980 7350) over the canal into the Oil Shale works at Broxburn.

Information from RCAHMS (DE) August 1996

The abutments of this bridge, which carried a railway line connected with the shale works, are clearly visible. The bridge was recently dismantled, having been abandoned once the works closed.

H Brown 1997.

This bridge is clearly visible on the current edition of the OS 1:10000 map (1983) and on the OS 1:10000 raster map (ND).

Information from RCAHMS (MD) 8 March 2001.
