Archaeology Notes

NG14NE 2 151 480.

At NG 151 480, on the NE slope of Waterstein Head at about 600ft OD, there is an extensive group of about 75 ruined shielings, contained within enclosure banks and bisected by the Forsan Burn. The bothies, reduced to turf-covered mounds and mainly of double-cell type, are of earth and stone, and of turf construction. There is a single ruined house in their midst.

Visible on RAF air photographs CPE/Scot/UK/175: 1296-7.

Visited by OS (A S P) 14 April 1961.
