This factory is thought to have been the town's 'Clipping Mill', and may have been water-powered in the past. Johnston and Company converted the site to lace manufacture in 1880 and installed steam engines to power its machinery. The works comprises a two-storeyed sandstone building with attic. A single-storeyed weaving shed is to the rear.

C C Allan 1979

The complex was occupied by Simon, May Co Ltd, lace manufacturers, on the date of visit.

Visited by RCAHMS (MKO) 28 November 1995.
