Arnisdale House, Ross & Macbeth, 1898-1916. Gabled shooting lodge with central bracketted verandah, built for Valentine Fleming of the famous banking family (father of the writer and explorer Peter Fleming, and of Ian Fleming, creator of James Bond), who was killed in action a year after it was completed. A treelined avenue leads to the site of its predecessor, whose garden boasted 'prodigious quantities of apples, pears, gooseberries, raspberries, strawberries, currants, and most excellent vegetables' when John Knox visited Macleod of Arnisdale here in 1786. U-plan steading, a rare survival of an early 20th century pre-fabricated corrugated iron-clad kit.
