NG88NW 8 centred on 816 855

A crofting township comprising forty-eight roofed, three partially roofed, eight unroofed buildings and their associated enclosures is depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Ross-shire 1881, sheet xxxi). Forty-one roofed, three partially roofed, sixteen unroofed buildings and their associated enclosures are shown on the current edition of the OS 1:10000 map (1990).

NG 81 84 A walkover survey in February 2001 of an area of proposed forestry located two shieling sites and pre-crofting boundary dykes, and recorded abandoned buildings within the crofting township (NMRS NG88NW 8).

The Ordnance Survey Object Name Book describes the township of Midtown as ' Applies to towenship situated about five miles north west of Poolewe and runs northwards for a mile and a half- and an average of a quarter of a mile in breadth. Comprising a number of small crofts and thatched houses: The property of Sir R Mackenzie of Gairloch.
