There are at least five ring cairns (CRAIG94 90-93, 95) situated on the crest of a gorse- and broom-covered ridge to the N of Mowat Newton. The cairns are all roughly circular on plan and measure between 2.9m and 4.4m in diameter and 0.3m in height, with courts between 1.1m and 2m across. One cairn (CRAIG94 91) has a medial line of kerb stones, possibly indicating a contraction in the size of the court from about 3m across to 1.1m across. What may be a further two ring cairns (CRAIG94 89, 94) are also situated on the ridge, measuring 2.1m and 3.5m in diameter, respectively. What may have been outer kerb stones are visible and although a central depression is visible, a court cannot be definitely identified.
Six small cairns, measuring up to 3m in diameter and 0.3m in height are situated within the scatter of ring cairns, with further stony heaps in the dense gorse to the N. Between the cluster of small ring cairns and what may be a larger ring cairn (NJ35SE 35.02) there are two lengths of bank, possibly linear clearance heaps, up to 30m in length and cutting across the crest of the ridge.

Measured Survey (29 September 1994)
RCAHMS surveyed the ring cairns and cairns at Mowat Newton with plane-table and alidade on 29 September 1994 at a scale of 1:100. The resultant plan was redrawn in ink in 1994.
