Field Visit (7 September 1994)

NJ50NW 27 5081 0975

The remains of this farmstead, which are situated in pasture, comprise the ruins of two rectangular buildings. The farmhouse (CRAIG94, 20) lies to the N and has been levelled into the slope; it measures 10.7m from NE to SW by 4.1m transversely within a mortared-rubble wall 0.55m thick and up to 2.2m high with an entrance on the SE. An outshot 10.1m long with an entrance on the SE has been added to the SW gable end. The second building (CRAIG94, 21), a shed, lies parallel to the first a little to the SE; it measures 3.4m by 3.1m within a wall 0.55m thick and up to 0.8m high with a wide entrance in the NE end.

Only the farmhouse is depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Aberdeenshire 1869, sheet lxxi), and it is shown roofed.
