Circumstances of Loss Details

-----------------------------

The vesel was not listed in the DIctionary of Disasters at Sea or Lloyds War Loss books.

Surveying Details

-----------------------------

A position for the wreck was given as 56 30 00N, 005 42 00W.

Source: authority not stated.

14 January 1974. The position and area were sounded out, but nothing located.

Hydrographic Office 1995.

(Classified as steel, steam trawler: registration number cited as GN 54, former name as Henry Butcher, and date of loss as 24 November 1943). River Tay: this vessel was ashore at Innismore [Inninmore] Point. All gone, but constructive total loss.

Registration: Granton. Built 1918. 203grt. Length: 35m. Beam: 7m.

(Location of loss cited as N56 30.00 W5 42.00).

I G Whittaker 1998.

(Location changed to NM c. 723 406: N56 30.1 W5 42). The location assigned to this record remains essentially tentative.

That suggested by the Hydrographic Office appears indeterminate, and the location of this vessel was presumably close to that of the associated salvage vessel (Ballista), for which see NM74SW 8003.

The location cited by Whittaker appears uncertain. Innismore or Inninmore Point is not noted as such on the 1996 edition of the OS 1:50,000 map. Inninmore Bay is a shallow and ill-defined indentation on the NE side of the Sound of Mull, and extends from NM 70 42 to NM 73 40.

Information from RCAHMS (RJCM), 19 March 2002.
