This vessel is in two parts. The ship was torpedoed on 12 January 1940 in position N58 58.8 W2 53.08 [HY 491 106], 2.3 miles SW of Hellier [Helliar] Holm light. The fore part only was salvaged from the original position on 8 September 1941; the location of this portion is cited as N58 57.85 W2 54.67.

The operation of a submarine in such shallow and confined waters as is indicated by the recorded location of the torpedo attack is highly unusual.

Note : Kevin Heath has confirmed that the wreckage of the Danmark is still present at NGR 349150E 1010606N. The wreckage has been blasted flat and is contained within a depression that is visible in the MBES sonar survey. The depression is 1.1 metres deep in a flat seabed with very low san ripples which has a depth of 15.6 metres. The depression has a length of 100 metres SW-NE by 49 metres and is used as the extent for the remnants of the Danmark.
