Surveying Details

-----------------------------

16 October 1970. At a place known locally as Bicary Point (possibly after a vessel called BICARY) china plates with a floral decoration have been located in 11 metres. The remains of a large wooden windlass lies on the beach and is dated by the locals to about 1910. The site was located by divers during the summer of 1970.

The position given [NG 2559 4173: N57 23 W6 34] is the approximate location of Bicary Point.

Report by B R Johnson, from a letter dated 7 October 1970 and received via Lloyds, 14 October 1970.

Hydrographic Office, 1995.

Neither Uamh an Tairbh nor Bicary Point is noted on the 1998 edition of the OS 1:50,000 map. Neither Larn and Larn nor Whittaker (both works 1998) note the loss of a vessel named Bicary in Scottish waters.

Information from RCAHMS (RJCM), 2 April 2002.
