Auxiliary Schooner LANGANES, of Faeroes, master Daniel Jacob Mortonson. Enroute Faeroes to Aberdeen. Lost 11 Nov 1941 at Scrabster Roadstead, 120 yards South West of Holburn [Holborn] Head Lighthouse. Weather South Easterly whole gale, heavy squalls, sea rough. Cause of wreck, ship dragged anchor or cable parted. Crew saved. Crew landed by lifeboat at 15.20pm. Cargo 60 ton fish, value not known. Particulars given me by Naval Control Office at Scrabster.

The wreck of the fishing vessel LANGENS is reported at 58 37 00N, 003 31 00W or on a bearing of 186 degrees and 500 metres from the Little Head light, Thurso Bay.

25 March 1942. The wreck has been dispersed.

16 May 1977. The wreck was not found despite a sidescan search. The wreck was dispersed in 1942.

Report by HMS HERALD, 29 December 1976.

(Classified as F[ishing] V[essel]: date of loss cited as 7 December 1941). Lagnes: this vessel [sank] at 186 degrees 2.7 cables from Littlehead Light. Dispersed.

Classified as smack: former name cited as Ludulf Eide, and date of loss as 10 November 1941). Langenes: this vessel stranded at Thurso. Registration: Faroese.

(Location of loss cited as N58 36.0 W3 31.5).

The location assigned to this loss is essentially tentative, being derived from the unverified location that is cited by Whittaker. Littlehead Light is presumably to be identified as Holborn Head Lighthouse (ND17SW 7.00) at ND 10669 70659.

The two losses cited by Whittaker are equated.
