The PARAGON sank following collision with floating wreckage. Her class was given as 'dandy'.

Surveying Details

4 August 1972. The vessel was in collision with other wreckage about 40 miles WNW of Kinnairds Head.

16 Augsut 1972. A position of 57 56 00N, 003 13 00W was given.

24 Marhc 1986. Broken up wreckage was examined on 3 December 1985 in 57 56 10N, 003 12 11W. NGR eastings 328770, northings 894698. Trisponder ranges - Tarbatness lighthouse 34849 metres; Covesea lighthouse 24892 metres; Portknockie Pillar 33255 metres; Browlands Pillar 30293 metres. Decca (n scot) red f 16.60, green a 47.70, purple a 67.28. The least echosounder depth was 58 in a general depth of 60 metres. No scour pits were observed. The side scan sonar indicated a length of 45 metres (147 feet), lying with its keel orientated 110/290 degrees.

Report by HMS BEAGLE.

This is possibly too large to be a sailing dandy fishing vessel.
